ISLAMIC MISSION ORGANIZATION
The formation of IMO International was not deliberate, Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi regarded it as an act of Allah. After his ordeal at Zumratul Islamiyyah, Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi returned to Isolo and took a firm decision never to be involved in any Islamic organization anymore, including, the All Nigeria Muslims Council, which had regrettably been forced to change it’s name to Nigeria Muslim Council Lagos State, in order to pave way for the formation of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs ( NSCIA)
May the soul of our heroes past never be in vain. Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi had five kids as at then, including, his wife all of whom had missed his parental attention and care for the years he spent at Zumratul Islamiyyah Society. He decided to make up for those absences at home. To him, the exercise did not pose any serious problem having been properly trained as a missionary of Islam by his mentors.
After some weeks, the population of the new organization IMO continue to increase with the presence of friends of his children and their mothers. With the expansion came some problems initially, which was quickly fixed. Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi is not an Arabic Alfa, the type the women were used to. They wanted an Alfa endowed with sonorous voice, so, he contacted Alhaji zakkariyah Thani, who is the present deputy Chief Imam of Ansar-udeen established by Alhaji A.K. Laguda.
With the involvement of Alhaji Thani, the weekly asalat services started to grow rapidly. People were trooping in far and near. Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi later introduced monthly night vigil and slaughtered ram to prepare breakfast for the members. In addition to the services, he added several empowerment programs to assist the women such as: soft loans, medical care, vocational trainings, scholarships, etc.
Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi got these ideas from Rotary Movement. He was the charter President, Rotary Club of Okota, millennium President, Rotary Club of Isolo, ( 1999-2000 ), Founder, Rotary Club of Apakun, and a Paul Harris fellow 3- star General.
However, Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi’s decision to take missionary responsibility as a spiritual leader was two folds:
1) He felt the time has come to stop the feeding bottle experiment of imparting Islamic knowledge which reduces the baby to his mother’s permanent servitude, and always crying for help whenever he’s hungry or experiencing some inconveniences.
Majority of Muslims don’t understand what they say in prayers, hence, when faced with difficult problems of life, they run to the Alfa’s and other spiritualists for solutions as many times they desire. Most Muslims are tied to the apron strings of the Alfa’s. Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi put a stop to the retrogressive system, and demonstrated how to run a proper and people-friendly missionary outfit.
2) Alhaji Thani secured a job with Ansar-udeen as an Imam, which made him unavailable to us on a regular basis, as a result, Alhaji Ayo Adeyemi took up the gauntlet to show others that running a mosque without the knowledge of Arabic is a doable venture.
